Hegewald & Peschke upgrades Universal Testing Machine of the Technical University Freiberg for testing rock samples

Upgraded universal testing machine for the testing of rock samples

Hegewald & Peschke MPT GmbH has retrofitted a Universal Testing Machine for the Institut für Geotechnik of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. The upgraded testing machine will be used for student internships at the chair for rock mechanics. The compression strength of rocks will be determined with this machine.

The Universal Testing Machine was equipped with a new hydraulic unit and a new control system; it also was repainted. In addition, the testing machine was equipped with an add-on external oil cooler to allow performing also longer tests, especially those where the load changes intermittently when performing fatigue tests. Rock samples in the form of drilling cores are tested.

The control system is equipped with additional measuring inputs to allow determining 3x axial expansion and 1x circumferential expansion in addition to force and path. If necessary, the force is not determined via the pressure sensor of the hydraulic unit but can be ascertained directly with a load cell.
